So... I posted a pic of myself in my Michael Sam (Rams) gear... and this is why... those who bring change are never known solely for what they do--football player, singer, doctor, president, astronaut, etc... the first person to break any particular boundary is always known by both things... and they make it possible for those of us who come after to be simply writers, singers, athletes, politicians or what-have-you, not female authors, black singers, gay athletes... I think its beautiful, and hard, and important. Michael Sam is not just a great athlete. Hes a revolutionary, changing the face of sports, and popular American culture. And someday, because of his bravery, well have pro athletes in the NFL and other pro organizations who are known for their athletic prowess... oh, and also happen to be women, or black, or gay, or whatever. Still, he deserves to be lauded for both incredible feats. It takes true strength of character, mind, and soul to achieve both things. Im hoping he has an incredible first season, and that his team and opponents give credence to the grit it takes to be the first to break a boundary like this.
