So, Im sure a lot of you have heard about the death of a teenager - TopicsExpress

So, Im sure a lot of you have heard about the death of a teenager in Ferguson, MO. During a confrontation with a police officer, an 18 year old black male was shot and killed on Saturday. There is disagreement over what actually happened. So, let me help clear the confusion. 1. The identity of the officer has not been released. 2. No video or audio recording has been released. I do not know if the boy was shot in cold blood, as an act of self defense, or as an practice of protocol. 3. Witnesses of the incident have shared varying recollections which further hinder finding the truth. 4. Crowds have both peacefully protested and not so peacefully protested. There has been looting, rioting, vandalism, and violence. 5. Police have met these acts of protest with force. What exactly are the police supposed to do in reaction to these crimes? It is their job to protect citizens from others breaking the law. People are getting hurt, businesses are getting burned down. Its not okay to do ANY of this. Being upset does not give you the right to break the law. It bothers me to see comments about how police officers are corrupt. Isolated incidents such as these are perpetuating a stereotype. Very few police officers are bad people. Just like very few retail associates, or very few journalists, or very few construction workers are bad people. The job you have does not determine the type of person you are. There is an outcry for the identity of the officer to be released. Besides endangering his life and the lives of those close to him, releasing his name would impede a proper democratic trial. A jury is to be completely unaware and uneducated of the case they are to hear until they enter the courtroom. Publicly announcing the officers identity would hurt the judicial process. I am very sorry for the loss of life and love that this boys friends and family have felt. But until details are actually released, I think it would be better for people to stop spreading rumors about the incident. You werent there, you dont know. It is not your job to condemn.
