*** “So, William,” Marceline began as they were walking through the red sand of the Night-O-Sphere, towards her fathers home, which was now occupied by Virgil, “Why were you so angry with Nathaniel?” She spoke softly, thinking that it was a sensitive topic. Williams smile fell as his eyes turned downwards. “He was yelling at me. Telling me that mother dieing was my fault. That ending up here was my fault.” He paused, his tiny little hands balling into fists. Rage and sorrow filled everyone around him. “But its not...” His voice was so quiet, they almost didnt hear him. “Its not my fault...” His body was shaking. Icarus stopped abruptly, causing William to run into him. “Oops. Sorry, mister.” William didnt look Icarus in the eyes as he took a step back. The doom lord lowered himself to be eye level with William. He held up a single doughnut between their faces. “You see this?” He asked in a demanding tone. “Yes?” Williams brow furrowed in confusion. “Do you know what this is?” His tone didnt change, but the corner of his mouth was tugging up in a small smile. “A doughnut?” His eyebrows furrowed as confusion filled the boys voice. “It is not just a doughnut, William. This pastry is happiness. And I want you to have happiness. So here.” He gave William a toothy grin as he placed the doughnut in the boys hand. Icarus stood up and began walking again. Marceline couldnt suppress the laugh that bubbled from her chest. “He must really like you, William. Hes never shared one of his donuts with anyone before. You should feel very privileged.” She stuck her hands in her pockets as she followed behind Icarus. Dante didnt say a word, nor looked at the child as he walked by, but Ginger gave him a reassuring nod as she passed. William looked down at the soft doughnut. He placed it to his mouth and took a small bite. He smiled and ran to catch up with the group. When he walked next to Marceline, he gave her a goofy grin, his cheeks full of doughnut bits. She laughed to herself. He reminded her of Icarus when he did that. ** “Here we are. Virgil didnt want to stay in Lord Abadeers home, so he had one built next to it. You see that tower to the right? That entire tower is mine. And the one on the left is Nathaniels. And the one in the middle is Virgils.” As he spoke, William pointed to each tower. The mansion before them stood seven stories tall, dark weathered bricks filling the walls. The Victorian style plus its massive height and width made it appear sinister. Dante smiled. “Lord Abadeer... OUCH!” He rubbed his arm vigorously where the Vampire Queen had punched him. “That hurt, Demon!” He glared at Marceline, but she wasnt there. In fact, he couldnt see her any where. “Hey-a, Marcy? Whered ya go?” He stopped rubbing his arm to look around curiously. He looked at Icarus and Ginger, but they were smiling like they were informed of a joke that he wasnt. A hissing sound rang in his ears. Dante screamed as he fell, crawling backwards from the noise. A females laughter filled the silent air around them. “Why so scared? You think a snake might bite you?” Marcelines voice, filled with laughter, hissed at him. She had turned herself invisible. He growled. “Why so creepy?” He stood up and dusted his backside off as he scowled at where he thought she might be. Before she could retort, a snap caught her attention. “Thats cute, children, you two can pass notes in the halls later, but stop fooling around for one second so we can get on with what he came here to do.” Ginger crossed her arms over her chest. Something gripped Gingers hair at the base of her neck and pulled her high, up to the second story balcony. Marceline, now revealing herself, was the culprit. She put her face dangerously close to Gingers. “I dont take orders from a human.” Marceline hissed the words in a low whisper. “You may get Dante and Icarus to do whatever you want but if you order me around one more time Ill drink all the red from your pretty little face. Got it, mortal?” Ginger glared at the vampire. “If you think Im afraid of you then you are sorely mistaken.” Her voice was as low as Marcelines. “Just because youre a vampire, a demon, doesnt mean Im scared of a little threat.” Marceline smiled. “It wasnt a threat, sweetheart,” Marceline twirled a strand of Gingers fiery red hair around her finger and yanked it. “It was a promise.” “Stop it! Sorry!” William yelled up to them. “Please dont fight. I was kind of mad again! Please dont hurt each other!” Desperation filled his voice and everyone around him. “Come on, guys. We need to hurry before someone realizes who we are. Were already gathering a crowd.” Icarus spoke quietly, so that only the vampire queen would hear. She sighed. Marcelines face turned a little red. “Im not apologizing, but...” Ginger turned slightly pink. “I get it.” ** “You sure he isnt here, William?” Icarus asked in a whisper as the sneaked through the right wing of the mansion. “Yeah,” The little blonde boy replied, “He never comes up to my tower, he always summons me to go to him. So were safe here.” A question came to mind and he asked the group before he could stop himself. “Why do you guys want to talk to Mister Virgil?” They all exchanged glances, but Marceline was the one to speak. “You mentioned Lord Abadeer earlier, correct?” “Yeah...” He didnt see where she was going with this. “Well, Lord Abadeer happens to be my father. And Mister Virgil has kinda taken my fathers place while he was on a vacation,” She spoke slowly, “So we wanted to see what was going on. Does that make any sense?” Slowly, William nodded his head. “Yeah, I get it. So wait, are you like, the demon princess or something? Ya know, since your dad is the Demon Overlord and all... I mean, Im not saying its a bad thing.. Its kinda cool to rule demons, I mean, no... I...” His face turned pink with embarrassment as he rambled on. “Its cool, kiddo. And yeah, kinda I guess.” Marceline turned invisible. “Ill go snoop around. You guys stay here.” She watched as each one of their heads bob before she left. Everyone was silent for a moment before William blew out a sigh of frustration. “Okay. I cant figure it out. I have tried, but I cant get it. What are you guys?” Icarus smiled. “What theories have you formed?” “Well,” He began, “I think Dante is part demon, only because Virgil is, and Ginger I think is just a human with some powers... like a... a witch...” Ginger glared as the words left his mouth, causing him to shy away from her. “But I dont know what you are. Some kind of Immortal Im guessing by the way you took on Marceline. And I think she is like, part demon. But I dont know the other half, because Ive never known a demon that can do what she can.” When he finished, he finally met Icarus gaze, to find him smiling. “You are correct. Dante is half Demon half Human. Ginger is a hundred percent human, to our knowledge,” He leaned closer and blocked his mouth from Gingers sight with his hand. “But I wouldnt go around calling her a witch, she doesnt like it.” “Just because you blocked your mouth doesnt mean I cant hear your words.” Ginger huffed out, crossing her arms. Icarus smiled and lowered his hand. “I am indeed immortal. I am whats called a doom lord. The name basically says it all. Lord. Of Doom.” He smiled when Williams eyes widened in wonder. “And, lastly, Marceline is half Demon, and half Vampire. Were a group of freaks, huh?” Icarus smirked. “Oh no! You guys are awesome! I cant believe it. I didnt think vampires were real! And Ive never heard of doom lords before! This is so cool!” William was practically bouncing with excitement. “And a human with powers! Thats amazing! Not to mention a half demon half human?! How would that work anyways?...” “Not like youd think.” A deep male voice sounded from behind the group. They all turned to face him in unison. A tall, lean man with snow white hair that was slicked back stood before them. He was adorned in the same clothing as Dante, except his was a dark blue instead of a crimson red. He had a his right hand placed securely over a womans mouth, and his other hand was placed on her binds, which were cutting into her skin deeply, burning into her her. It was draining her energy. Yet she managed to fight and scream, but to no avail. It was Marceline.
