So after 15yrs in the workplace, way too many loops through the airport and now the recent D68 & ebola epidemic, I have decided to post up my findings of a study I have been mentally documenting the entire time. Weird, possibly....accurate, absolutely.....but hear me out. Approximately 60-70% of men do not wash their hands after going to the bathroom....yes this even includes the stinky #2, sadly in this group is a chef at a well known restaurant in Short Pump. He did however stop in front of the mirror to adjust his uniform & hat...how thoughtful. I have no words to describe this other than foul, plain and simple. My 3 year old son washes his hands. You may think (or even wish) others want to touch your junk, but the majority of people do not want to touch your junk. The select few who do want to touch your junk, most likely dont want your junks junk on their door knobs, gas pump handles, menus or food. While I am talking about food...heres some food for thought...I have had many supervisors of all shapes, sizes and abilities. The one quality all of the good ones shared was that they washed their hands after going potty. I think it has a lot to do with respect for other people that shines throughout their lifestyle (personal hygiene-->leadership skills). So I have been taught to never rant or complain without providing a potential solution to the problem: My potential solution would be to move all of the sinks outside of bathrooms and into public view (start with airports first). If nothing else, this would hopefully shame offenders into at least running water across their foul, junk covered paws. Maybe you dont think junk juice is an issue...well think of it from another point of view: lets assume the average potty per day value is 4...this would provide 4 additional opportunities for junk to be washed off instead of transmitting it to other people. Washing hands will not stop all of the illness, but if I were a betting man, I would bet it would significantly reduce the illness in this country...all by doing something that takes less than a minute. Ok, I will now step down from my soapbox....rant off.
