So...after much deliberation....I am going to go all KATO or Tomix - TopicsExpress

So...after much deliberation....I am going to go all KATO or Tomix on my layout. I have a bunch of Peco...but I just cant get it right with the flex track. I am a nut for realism, but a non-functioning railroad is quite unrealistic...as compared to wrong tie spacing. After seeing Dave V.s PRR Juniata Division where he replaced a piece of kinked peco track with kato unitrack...You cant tell the difference....that was my revelation I know the whole lipstick on a pig argument...but Im pretty good with lipstick. Im good with modeling (god awful at track work). Having picked up tricks on illusion I believe I can make katos rail height appear less. Another observation: Katos tie spacing is not that much different than Pecos. So far the only one with significant tie spacing difference is Atlas c55. The only thing that I cant accept is how high kato sits on its road bed...it drives me nuts. So.....there are 2 solutions to this. 1. carve out the foam that it will sit on to make it lower OR go with tomix? which sits at the same height as flex on roadbed (also have curved turnouts!!!). Though Ive heard that if tomix is to go down permanently you need to solder feeders to every piece of track? Also...a concern....is the movement thru Kato switches being very non-prototypical? Wondering if anyone had any video of this...maybe even some comparing this to tomix?
