So apparently the good part of government…the folks that really make America great…the folks that decide spending more money to keep WWII Vets out of the WWII Memorial than it does to let them in 24/7 365…is in “shutdown.” We know 83% of the government is operating normally. We know Republicans are to blame. The Democrats and the Media (I repeat myself sometimes) are mad at the Republicans. The folks that elected all the Republicans are mad at the Republicans. I heard the President called Boehner and told him to give him everything he wanted and then after that they could negotiate about stuff. In the 113th Congress Republicans represent 166M Americans and Democrats represent 142M. (Side note: In the last 100 years the average number of constituents per seat has grown from 210,328 to 710,767. The largest congressional district will be the entire state of Montana: 994,416. Thats nearly twice the average size of Rhode Islands two districts: 527,624 each.) What other things might happen…well taking the Amber Alert system off didn’t stick, but my favorite so far is the folks Barrycaded at Yellowstone…these armed Park Rangers (I hope Ranger Rick doesn’t find out, it would break his heart!) geniuses made a hotel into a prison for the tourists…they would allow them out. All this did was inflame the States Rights people into demanding the Feds just turn over control of the National Parks to the redundant State’s Parks authorities. In other news that doesn’t involve shutdown theatre… Weekly Standard: Obamacare Marketplace: Personal Data Can Be Used For ‘Law Enforcement and Audit Evil Activities USA Today Editorial Board: Park said the administration expected 50,000 to 60,000 simultaneous users. It got 250,000. Compare that with the similarly rocky debut seven years ago of exchanges to obtain Medicare drug coverage. The Bush administration projected 20,000 simultaneous users and built capacity for 150,000. Thats the difference between competence and incompetence.
