So in Matthew 7:7-11 Jesus tells us to ask, and that it will be - TopicsExpress

So in Matthew 7:7-11 Jesus tells us to ask, and that it will be given to us. He, COMMANDS us to ask. And He is very specific to whom He is referring in verse 7, He is speaking to His followers, us. Ask... given to YOU, seek and YOU will find, knock...opened to YOU. Then in verse 8, He says the same thing but He is speaking about the reality of everyones journey, For everyone is asking AND receiving, seeking AND finding, knocking AND finding a path opened. Could it be that Jesus tells to ask for the good things in verse 11 or the Holy Spirit (in Lukes account of this passage) so that we have the answers when other people ask? The reality is friends, all of us (as humans past, present, and future) our dealing with questions of origin, morality, purpose, and destiny, and more often than not, as a race, we ARE finding those answers for ourselves, albeit most of the time in the wrong places. Jesus is telling us here to ask for the good things that nurture us, empower us, equip us, and embolden us to do kingdom bound work! So that through our faith then by our works, the world can find the true and eternal answers to those questions in us pointing to Christ, instead of in that which is tangible and ultimately eventual destruction. Finally, please, for the sake of your faith, do not confuse this principle with asking for works. That is its own discussion, and for most wayward believers, a huge point of contention. Hear me, Jesus through metaphor tells us what to ask for in verses 9 and 10- food. That which allows us to grow, stay alive, and be strong- spiritual food. There is a time and a place for the Spirit guiding you to do, then asking Him for, and performing works- the doing. But before all that takes place, Jesus calls us to feed on what allows us to get to that place- the being. Who you are must always come before what you do. Ask God to show you WHO He wants you to be, ask for that which helps you be that person, then my friends in all sincerity i tell you this - after that transformation STARTS (indeed it is never finished) what you do will be a secondary afterthought given to you and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Ask and receive, so that you can give when the lost invariably come a knockin, seekin, and askin. HP
