So... in case you have 3 minutes and havent seen this yet, here is news story about Dr. Marvin Rapaport and Red Skin Syndrome. This is what happened to my son. He cleared up in the time frame Dr. Rapaport suggests in his case studies and papers and he does well with sunshine and UV light therapy. We did nothing special apart from stopping use of steroid creams, keeping him comfortable (washing him in warm water, covering him in vaseline and mummy wrapping him in gauze, antibiotics for skin infections or benadryl or atarax for itching), and letting time pass. But he got better and better over time. Stopping steroids + comfort measures x 1 year = 90% clear skin. Compare that to this formula: increased steroid cream use + moisturizers several times a day x 3 years = head-to-toe itching, redness, burning, infected skin on 90% of his body. Even with my sons dramatic turn around, very few doctors acknowledge this. No doctor I have ever spoken with has ever heard of it.
