So it took us an hour to get to church because of the road - TopicsExpress

So it took us an hour to get to church because of the road conditions. Getting out of the driveway was a commitment from the get go because as soon as Phil put the truck in reverse it slid of its own accord all the way down the driveway at a very disconcerting angle, but miraculously came to a temporary stop completely sideways at the end of the driveway making it parallel with the road. Phil put it in drive and the truck, again of its own accord, slid right out onto the road - which thankfully had been salted and sanded. Had we known, we would not have even attempted the trip. We got to church super late, but the message Pastor Tony gave today was one of the best ever, so that was a huge plus. Getting to hear Dara and Aaron sing the closing song was another bonus. Then the trip home - good grief! Slow but steady until we got back to the driveway of glass. Phil pulls in and immediately the truck starts sliding at a scary angle back towards the road and / or the fence and / or the ditch. He sat there for a couple of minutes trying to decide what to do. He opts for putting it in park right there and getting a wheel chock to prevent it hopefully from sliding further. He says to me Its going to slide anyway even in park because of the slight downward grade towards the road. All is well seemingly as he went to get the wheel chock and some rock salt to help it stay in place. I am sitting there in the truck and sure enough it starts to slide backward towards the road/ditch/fence. I screamed like a girl because 1) I am one and 2) I am in the passenger seat unable to do anything. It came to a stop as it ran into a pile of snow just before the ditch, the fence, and the road. I was literally shaking. Glad to be inside and warm and dry. Too much excitement for one day!
