So its time to share an update from Uganda and East Africa Womens Rescue Center GLOBAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE One of the highlights of the past several weeks was the three-day Global Leadership Summit in Jinja. WE have never attended a better training on leadership. the people you lead are your congregation. Their success is your success. Are you praying for the maturity and development? SELF SUSTAINING PROJECTS One of our greatest tasks is to become self sustaining. So we have been looking into many options to generate income. One avenue that seems fairly lucrative is raising a specialized breed of chicken. We have also looked at investing in some looms for women to weave various items for sale. The investment in the looms is $1500 and over time this will not only create employment for three women at a fair wage but can help to generate some income for the ministry. We looked at a small piece of property to purchase for the chickens and a small garden, we are waiting on confirmation to proceed. CONNECTIONS AND COLLABORATIONS We have connected with the founders of YWAM Uganda and also visited at the YWAM office in Jinja. We also visited one of their offshoot ministries in a village called Kangulumira about a half hour from Mbiko. This ministry works with about 200 women in making items to sell. While they come together to work, Irene, the leader teaches about health issues, HIV prevention, etc and many other issues. We will join them to teach about safety and domestic violence in the future. We also went to a huge government funded project much like a business incubator to learn about how the government is working to help people develop small businesses. In addition, we are collaborating with the Anti-Domestic Violence Coalition on a campaign in November called the 16 days of awareness, which includes 5 separate public education events. Margaret the Director is an amazing woman and really knows the system and how things work in Uganda. Whenever we get together its an incredible mutual exchange of information. This week we purchased two goats pregnant with twins. Doven Ministries selected us as one of their partners. They fund the purchase of the first goats, we select the ladies who would benefit from this project. The women, raise the goats and return to us the first born goat, she then gets to keep the goat and all its additional offspring. We then continue the process and bless another woman with a goat and so on it goes. While this seems like a small effort, its the little things that can make a difference for a woman and her childrens survival. OUR THREE DAY CONFERENCE Last week we held a three day conference in Mokono. We held a training for pastors at the Bible training program there about how to respond to report of family violence. One of our major goals is to educate and equip pastors to understand and minister appropriately when the receive reports of violence.
