So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he - TopicsExpress

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple (Luke 14:33). There is a difference between all and everything; and there is a difference between forsake and give up. Lots wife gave everything up, but she never forsook all of it. She had to look back, for she yearned for everything she had just given up. She gave up her home and kin, but not the desire for them. Until you destroy the desire, you havent forsaken the thing whether you have given it up or not. As a ministry of helps (1 Corinthians 12:28/ Acts 27:17) to undergird your ship, the old woodwright offers the following, to help you know when you have forsaken all. You have forsaken all, when the following things are true in your life: 1.) FAMILY- When the desire to be with them, see them, communicate with them or please them fades away to the busy schedule of the will of God, and the memories of the Kings service are more precious, more pleasant, and more entertained that the memories of home. 2.) FRIENDS- When the desire to have, to enjoy or to accompany such persons dissolves into the quiet solitude of the singular presence of God, and the preferral of their absence is above the longing for their presence, that it not rob you of a single sweet moment with Christ. 3.) FAME- When the desire to be recognized on any level, and at any time, is blasted into perdition by the vehement disdain of such sensual lusts, and is altogether supplanted by the constant longing to be hid in Christ Jesus with all things secreted in Him, manifesting His glory and praise. 4.) FORTUNE- When the desire of all material gain, whether money or much, surrenders to a day by day, helpless dependence upon Christ Jesus as Provider; manifesting itself daily in continual collisions with penury, pennilessness and loss, that it might be counted gain at His appearing. 5.) FUTURE- When the hopes of tomorrow are the realities of today alone, where no plans, howsoever great, extend beyond the setting of a single sun; and when the only desires for tomorrow are those which are eternal, reaching far above the cares of this world, being fixed in the everlasting arms and presence of the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.
