So likewise you, when you shall have done all those things which are COMMANDED you, say, “We are UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS: we have done that which was our DUTY to do (Luke 17:10) … This is where the PROPERITY DOCTRINE Preachers cause Christians and SINNERS to STUMBLE and COMMIT SIN. They teach that we are DESERVING of God’s BLESSINGS and therefore should EXPECT something in return for our SERVICE as a Christian. This is why they feel God doesn’t want us BROKE, without WEALTH and LUXURIES, because we are His children and He’s OBLIGATED to do these things for us. However, Jesus paints a very different picture when He speaks of our ROLE in God’s Kingdom and Family. Jesus states that after we have followed EVERY COMMAND that we are expected to FOLLOW, because that’s why they were GIVEN, we are to NOT look for ANYTHING in return for doing so, because we are only doing what was EXPECTED of us – our DUTY. And as such, we are UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS of God’s! For it is He whom we have totally surrendered to and TRUST to take care of us as He sees fit. But today’s Christian always has his/her hand out for God to put something in it. You can hardly get anyone to work in the church or ministry without them first asking, “How much does it PAY!” We take the FREE gift of God - talents, skills, abilities, wisdom, and anointing – and, charge God and His people before they can gain access to them. There are sooo many UNSAVED people in the church calling themselves Christians, yet having no clue as to what Jesus said His followers are to be like, that it’s really NOT that difficult to tell the FAKE from the GENUINE. Follow the LIFE and TEACHINGS of Jesus and you SEE them STANDING OUT like a sore thumb!
