So my amazing friend Blake did a social experiment. Last night he posted a status saying that he way gay and ready to come out of the closet. He let the comments and messages go on for one whole day. He wanted to see how people in todays world vs the past would react to him coming out. And a majority of his friends & family are southern. When he told me, last night, that he had plans to do this I was so worried that many of his friends and/or family would turn their back on him and say harsh things and crush his spirit, but I was wrong. Surprisingly there was not a single word of hatred or negativity on the post. Not even in those who private messaged him. The love and support that numerous people showed was overwhelming. This social experiment has showed me and will hopefully show others that the world is changing and has potential to become a more welcoming and open-minded place. I hope that if there is anyone who is struggling with their orientation or coming out will see this and be able to see that they can come out and have support.
