So the next day, Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the auditorium with the commanders and prominent men of the city. When Festus gave the command, Paul was brought in. Then Festus said: “King Agrippa and all men present with us, you see this man about whom the whole Jewish community has appealed to me, both in Jerusalem and here, shouting that he should not live any longer. Now I realized that he had not done anything deserving of death, but when he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him. I have nothing definite to write to my lord about him. Therefore, I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that after this examination is over, I may have something to write. For it seems unreasonable to me to send a prisoner and not to indicate the charges against him.” Acts 25:23-27 (HCSB) The next day Agrippa and Bernice arrived with a great deal of pomp, that is, in all their royal robes and with all their attendants. The tribunes and the prominent men of Caesarea came too. Ever notice how a lot of people love to rub elbows or been seen in the presence of dignitaries or star athlete or movie actors. Everyone wanted to say they were there with King Agrippa and Festus. As Paul was brought in, Festus addressed King Agrippa and the others who were present, calling on them to look at this man about whom the whole multitude of the Jerusalem Jews petitioned crying out that he must not live any longer. Again Festus declared he found that Paul had done nothing worthy of death. However, since he appealed to Caesar, he had decided to send him to Rome. The problem was that he had nothing trustworthy to write to Caesar. He was hoping that after this examination before Agrippa he would have something to write. It seemed unreasonable to send a prisoner without pointing out in a letter the charges against him. Even though Paul had done nothing Festus was worried about the squeaky wheel (the Jews) causing trouble within his realm. Therefore to appease the squeaky wheel he would send him on to Rome. Admitting there was no cause for the trial as he had no trustworthy evidence and asked them to supply it for him.
