So the provincial 5-man season comes to an end for the Western - TopicsExpress

So the provincial 5-man season comes to an end for the Western Cape. This time the decision was to play and not referee. There were some complications in terms of player availability and at the end we fielded a hastily combined team consisting of ourselves, Cape Town Collision and Toxic Paintball SA. Our thanks to these respective teams for allowing Grant, Ian, Wafeeq and Jody to join us for the day. Also to these guys for being willing to play under our banner. With limited exposure to the playing side of 5-man, the aim was to first familiarize ourselves with the larger format regardless of performance. Things ended up going much better than originally anticipated and we ended up narrowly missing out on a guaranteed place in the finals. Unfortunately things didnt go our way in the playoffs and we ended up placing 3rd - a position that we are all most proud of, considering the steep learning curve of playing established 5 man teams such as SA Critical and DeathWatch. Congratulations to Legacy Paintball for clinching the win and Critical on the 2nd place. Again props to the people who make it possible to play: Anthraχ Custom Paintball Jersey Designs Blades and Triggers The Paintballshop Johannesburg / PE Paintball City Our thanks to Christine and her new reffing crew for allowing us to step out and play a 5-man event. We know it is a tough job in which the criticism far outweighs the gratitude owed. Lastly thanks to Paul Grobler and the Sarpl (South African Regional Paintball League) for traveling all the way to the Western Cape in spite of the financial impact. Our hopes are that the Western Cape will rise to the challenge of fielding more teams in the wake of Super Cup. 5-man is a much different game than 3-man, each with its own appeal. Playing 3-man will always be our base, but 2015 might just see an additional team on the WC 5-man list...
