So, this past Monday, we were driving home from Renfest and stopped at a organic foods store, Common Market, in Frederick, MD for dinner. While there, all of us tired and frazzled, my darling wife, Leah, accidentally locked our only set of keys in the car. Naturally, as an imperfect human, I felt the rise of frustration and anger, while she frantically dug in her purse, trying to determine if it was true. I turned around and saw a magazine rack, and realized there were several Buddhist magazines there. Directly thinking, Ah, a bit of Dharma teachings to center myself and I walked over and saw the current issue of Shambhala Sun, a long time favorite of ours. I didnt even read the article. Just the cover title gave me the spark to calm myself and not make the situation worse through my own Dukkha. That is, my suffering at the effects of our impediment to our night. Immediately I calmed down. We bought the issue and ate our dinner and looked it over, while waiting on our AAA assistance to arrive. The car was unlocked within 30 minutes, the employees were very helpful, the issue is great, and we have just delightfully re-subscribed. We pay a significant amount for AAA and it is very wise and useful. We will pay less for Shambhala Sun, but it will be our monthly Dharma teachings and be our emergency life side assistance in times of need.
