So today June 24, 2014 marks 3 years since the Amtrak train wreck at highway 95 crossing in Ocala, Nevada. On June 24, 2011 Amtraks westbound California Zephyr train number 5 had departed Winnemucca, Nevada station and was headed to its next station stop in Reno, Nevada. It was passing through highway 95 railroad crossing when a big rig truck failed to stop, slammed into the side of it, setting the train on fire, killing the conductor, several passengers, as well as the truck driver. I knew the conductor who was killed in the wreck as well as several other Amtrak employees that worked out of the Reno, Nevada Amtrak station. I was always into model trains, toy trains, brio trains, trains magazine, etc as a kid. My friends and my self do all kinds of railroad photography. We film a train at a location, get into our vehicles, chase it down, and beat it to the next spot and so on and so forth like tornado storm chasing photography. I live about a 2 hour drive away from highway 95 railroad crossing. I had filmed trains at that highway 95 crossing for 6 years prior to the wreck and years after. Quite the tragic event. This is the last video I ever shot Amtraks westbound California Zephyr train number 5 passing through Highway 95 crossing prior to the wreck. I shot this video on April 16, 2011 just almost 2 months prior to the wreck just before leaving for my Alaska seasonal job. The big rig truck came from the right side of where the camera was filming.
