So, today is Giving Tuesday, and even though I aint got much to give, its the day I donate what I can to charities, NGOs and nonprofits. Many of you were extraordinarily generous to me when I was in need, but now that Im merely broke instead of poor, itd be great if you point your kindness and currency in the direction of a fine organization thats doing work that needs to be done. Some of the groups that have gotten my pennies in the past include the Conservation Fund, Doctors Without Borders, the Foundation for Sustainable Developments, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, the Humane Society, Iraq Veterans Against the War, the Malala Fund, the National Alliance to End Homelessness, the Palestinian Childrens Relief Fund, the Red Cross, and the WikiLeaks Foundation. But, importantly, please look into giving to local charities in your area, especially food banks, libraries, womens shelters, homelessness aid, and animal care. Theyre perennially short on funds and resources, especially at this time of year, and need your help the most. If you dont know of any, ask your friends -- Im sure theyre brimming with helpful suggestions. To wind up this pitch, and hopefully get you all in the mood to do the same, Ive set aside $200 of my annual charity budget to give to organizations I have never donated to before. So if youre one of the first five people to post a reply with the name of your charity of choice, Ill send forty bucks their way. Charities, NGOs, and nonprofits always take it on the chin in times of economic trouble, so if youre managing to weather the storm, please consider sharing your good luck today. Thanks a lot.
