So unfortunately our trip to Melbourne didnt work out quite as planned. I made the decision to retire on xc at fence 10, as Sparkles just was not right. Thankfully I did, as he has pulled up with a very hot NSF pastern/hoof, he has been vetted and the verdict is a hoof abscess that has been brewing in this shit weather. He hadnt shown any heat or soreness prior to today, but he was just not his usual bold, confident self and it wasnt worth bullying him just to try and get around. He tried his guts out for me as he always does, and I would never forgive myself if something happened to him because I didnt pick up on something. We head home tomorrow morning and Mr Sparkles can have a month of rest time in the paddock, which has been well earned.
