So very proud of the two young women I call my daughters. We were almost in a 5 car pileup on our way home tonight as we were exiting the North Loop at Slide Road. There was some kind of commotion that caused every one to stop dead in their tracks......smack dab in the middle of the exit. We quickly realized that there was a dog running into traffic and people were were trying to keep him from getting run over. As we turn around to assess the situation, we see a suburban swerve to no avail. They hit the dog. Immediately, Kelli and I start baling out of the car to try and get traffic to stop so that he was not hit again. No one bothered to check on this poor animal. Not even the one that hit him. My daughters and I proceeded to call LPD for animal control and and an officer for traffic control since we were on an overpass with no shoulders. A nice young man stopped to help us and used his car as a shield with his flashers on. We stayed with that sweet dog until he took his last breath. As hard as it was, both of my girls agreed that it was the right thing to do. As we all got in the car covered with dog hair, slobber, and blood, we knew that God put us in that place at that particular time for a reason. We stayed with and comforted that poor dog till the end. Most important to us, he didnt die alone. Probably not a big deal to some, but a proud moment for this mom.
