So, yesterday our POTUS gave a half-assed salute with a coffee cup - TopicsExpress

So, yesterday our POTUS gave a half-assed salute with a coffee cup in his hand to the Marines flanking Marine One. I agree that it was totally disrespectful and shameful for him to behave that way. The internet exploded over it. And because, to the liberal media, its NEVER Obamas fault, theyve compared his Latte Salute to when Bush struggled to salute with Barney the dog in his arms. (More on this in a moment.) Then there are others who are defending his behavior by pointing out that the President isnt required to return the salute. Sidebar: Some of those enlightened individuals with passionate opinions on the issue in defense of the President should do a bit of research on the facts they are citing. EVERY one of the comments Ive seen say something along the lines of Reagan made it optional implying with their comments that President Reagan changed the policy so that Presidents didnt have to return salutes. The truth, in fact, is that Reagan started the tradition of the President returning the salute of our armed forces, something no President had done before him (not even Eisenhower who was once a 5-star General). Every President since Reagan has continued the tradition of returning the salute of the military men he encounters. Back to mean old Bush and his salute with Barney in his arms. Holding a dog on an airport tarmac and saluting could be a difficult task, but Bush tried. Switching your coffee to the other hand to execute a proper salute is not a difficult task at all. A military salute is a HUGE deal, a weak and half-assed salute when youre in the military, is akin to the limp wristed half handshake in the business world. You just dont do that if you want respect, and on the flip side, doing it half-assed is a silent way to show your own lack of respect. Having said all that, here is where I stand on it. Obama is a jerk for saluting with his coffee in his hand. It would have taken no effort at all to switch the cup to another hand, but he has no respect or reverence for the military so it didnt even occur to him. If he isnt going to give the salute the effort it deserves, then he should just not do it, theres no rule that says he has too.
