~ Storm # 1, Storm # 2, and then the COLD~ 1-3-14 10pm Please feel free to SHARE this post and comment any questions you may have in the comment section! Good evening! We have a ton to talk about. So lets get right down to it. Storm # 1 When: Tonight through tomorrow noon Where: Southern Wisconsin What: Freezing drizzle and snow I have been hearing reports of multiple accidents around the area from the freezing drizzle that is out there right now. Please use extreme caution. This is the most dangerous icing I think. For one you dont see it until you hit it and you dont see it coming down most of the time like you do with freezing rain. If you dont have to drive then dont! Tonight will be the weaker of the two storms on the horizon. Snow totals should range from 1-3 of new snow. Northwest winds will increase to 5-15mph which will cause some blowing and drifting snow. Lows will drop to around 20 so the snow will most likely be fluffy enough to blow around by morning. Snow and blowing snow will last throughout the day on Sunday which will cause hazardous driving conditions throughout the day as well. Temps will start out around 20 in the morning, but dropping to around 5 degrees in the afternoon or early evening. Winds tomorrow will be out of the NW at 15-20mph and gusts to 30mph. Wind chills between -5 and -15 expected. Storm # 2 When: Monday evening through Tuesday morning Where: Southern Wisconsin What: Fluffy snow The weather models shown below are putting out some impressive snow totals for the 2 events. Most of which will come out of this storm. This will be a powerful clipper type storm coming from the northwest. It will also be dangerously cold during this storm which will raise the snow ratios to 30:1 or a bit higher. The snow maps below show a 10:1 snow ratio so you can do the math from that. Hence the reason I said impressive. We shall see what happens. WINTER STORM WATCHES have been issued for SW Wisconsin already for this event. They are expecting 4-8 inches. We will either see a high end winter weather advisory or winter storm watch issued by morning from the National Weather Service. Im going to hold off on saying how much snow we will see around here but it could be moderate to heavy snow accumulations. On top of all the snow it will be very cold with temps in the single digits during the entire event. This storm will usher in even more cold air in the wake of it. The dagger! COLD Enjoy the 12-14 degrees we will see on Tuesday! Break out the shorts if you really feel frisky. Starting Tuesday night we will see the coldest air weve seen this season and quite possibly the coldest air we will see all year depending on how the rest of the winter shapes up. Tuesday night the storm will have shifted away and we could see some clearing which will allow the temps to really drop. Temps will range between -8 and -12 actual air temp. NW winds 10-15mph will create wind chills down to at least -30. We will likely see a wind chill headline issued. Wednesday Im sorry to say but we will NOT get above 0! YIKES. The HIGH temp on Wednesday will be between -3 and -6 degrees actual air temp. Northwest winds up to 15mph will create dangerous wind chills. Wednesday night will be the coldest night this week with lows dropping to -12 to -16 or a bit colder. Thursday we rebound a little with the highs making it above 0 to a whopping 8 degrees. Clouds roll in Thursday night which will act like a blanket holding temps above zero to a balmy 2 degrees. Friday the heat returns with temps around 13 degrees before our next clipper type system impacts the area for the weekend. Stay tuned for any advisories or watches to be issued in the next 24 hours for the cold and/or snow. I will post maps in the comment section. ~Sam
