Socialist FAQs. Comments? Q. What is Feminism? What is Marxism? What are the differences? A. Feminism is the theory and movement of the emancipation of women and bringing them up to equal status with men by abolishing patriarchy. Marxism is the theory and movement of the emancipation of the proletariat (working class). Feminism, as an independent movement, also has various bourgeois trends which focus on uplifting the status of women without providing a critique of capitalism or viewing the question from the private property perspective. Since Marxism is the emancipation of the whole working class, which includes women, it is able to provide a Socialist orientation to feminism and place it within the perspective of a class struggle. Marxist feminism means working men and women must break down the barriers of patriarchy and unite as equals towards their emancipation from Capitalism.
