Soft, Slow, and Deep... How to remain relaxed when doing deep tissue/pressure work... Most patients/clients are fine with deeper pressure as long as the therapist sinks slowly into the tissues and has soft hands. There is often an unfortunate tendency for therapists to become rigid when working deeper. This is both less comfortable for the patient/client and more fatiguing for the therapist. One trick to stay more relaxed is to place the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth near your upper teeth in front. This stops you from clenching the jaw. Keeping the jaw relaxed tends to facilitate our upper body from tightening/becoming rigid, thereby allowing our entire body to remain relaxed. - Joe Muscolino :)
