Soil for Container Gardening: Containers require well-draining - TopicsExpress

Soil for Container Gardening: Containers require well-draining and loose soil with lots of organic matter. I use one part each of potting soil, one part sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite, and compost. If using compost, make sure to mix well with soil before filling pot. Use less of nitrogen rich fertilizers as we want more fruits and not huge plants. Water holding gels can help by retaining water. Mulching with straw will also retain soil moisture. Fish emulsion liquid is good fertilizer for container plants.
