Lu composed this piece as a sublime expression of his veneration for the beauty and grace of the famous West Lake in Hangzou, a place he visited in the 1930s. To play it for us today is the prodigious and very talented Chinese pianist Lang Lang. As a compatriot of the composer, Lang brings a certain authenticity to the tune and always plays it with sufficient passion to raise the roof with applause.
