Some Facts that I want to share with fellow Americans By Ahmed Gamal Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood brought back terrorism and authoritarian rule to Egypt 1. Despite winning by less than a 1% margin of the popular vote Morsi sought a policy of exclusion and deepening polarization of the country.1 2. Attempted to force thousands of judges out of office in what they called a “purge” by amending the constitution to lower the retirement age.2 3. Morsi gave himself sweeping powers and extrajudicial immunity.3 4. Muslim Brotherhood incited violence against High Court judges, besieged the High Court, blocked off roads to prevent the court of opening sessions.4 5. Morsi corrupted the criminal justice system by illegally sacking the prosecutor general and handpicking a prosecutor general.5 6. Passed a highly contested and unpopular draft of the constitution using sweeping extra judicial powers.6 7. President Morsi squandered public resources by providing heavily subsidized fuel to Hamas in Gaza though illegal smuggling tunnels contributing to crippling power outages across the country. Hamas would use and sell the excess for profit at the peril of the Egyptian public who suffered rolling blackouts, and gas shortages. Meanwhile the group denied the shortage altogether and again blame the media.7 8. During his one year in office Egyptians participated in 9,427 protests comprising 60 sectors of Egyptian society in several cities across the country. 8 9. Demonstrators faced crackdowns with deadly force and legitimate demands for reform were largely ignored.9 10. The current interior minister involved in the violent crackdown was himself appointed by Morsy and killed protesters under Morsi’s rule. Morsy later praised his handling.10 11. Morsi used rhetoric to incite members against the media. Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters laid siege to the press city (Cairo production city) assaulted members of the press, prevented media coverage.11 12. President Morsi has offered presidential pardons to many convicted terrorists including the group behind the assassination of previous president Anwar Al-Sadat.12 13. Muslim Brotherhood leadership have used the minority Coptic Christians as scapegoats, intimidated and threatened them not to protest against Morsi through pre-recorded calls, and public statements. They then carried out a series of coordinated attacks on Churches, houses, monasteries, orphanages, schools and businesses in nine provinces. 14. According to Amnesty international the Muslim Brotherhood’s protests in Rabaa square had evidence of abduction, torture of civilians, rape, and murder as bodies were discovered in the camp and more buried after the camp’s dismantlement.14 The country nearly on the brink of chaos with energy crises, food shortages, free-fall economy, rampant terrorism in Sinai, continued demonstrations and crackdowns, and after repeated warnings the military gave President Morsi 48 hours to concede to reforms which where immediately dismissed. In fulfilling the will of millions of Egyptians protesting across Egypt, commander in chief of the armed forces Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi announced the ousting of President Morsi and installed an interim civilian government that would initiate re-elections. This was done in similar fashion to the Jan 25th revolution when then commander in chief Mohamed Hussein Tantawy ousted then Hosni Mubarak who is currently carrying out a life sentence in prison.
