Some ask me why the heck I would enjoy getting in the ring and getting punched in the head in front of a few hundred people and why I think its fun... Its not fun, its scary and its hard. Those hours of training hard sweating your heart out while someone is yelling out to you to go harder or more power..speed is frustrating!! That fear inside you not knowing if you will win or not. The never ending sparring and battles with your inside voice telling you its ok to give up. Your brain constantly telling you that you need to punch and move but your lungs and arms are screaming at you to STOP! Your friends and family screaming at you to keep your guard up or punch. That fear of looking like and idiot, letting down your team, having to tell people if you lost, facing the never ending questions that continue a few weeks after the fight.... So when people ask me, my answer is simple...Its the fear that drives me. Anyone that has ever jumped in the Ring or even the Octagon has my full respect win or loose. Its only you and one other person in the ring, only you can rely on yourself...thats scary. If you dont believe me, ask Shontelle Goodhew...4months ago when I met her at Results Rule in Kerikeri I asked her..Do you want to have a fight, as scared as she was she simply replied Yeah ok (with the help of the Results Rule whanau peer pressure of course). So the journey began with more challenges than both of us could count on our fingers. There were tears, there was blood and yes there was that thing could FEAR but she never gave up. With the help of our whanau at the Lions Den Ministries - Ryan and Talor, Sonny, Maria, Brook Ware, Mike and most importantly Jess Rule from Results Rule - we learnt, we listened and we did our best to control that fear with discipline which showed last night and I can not thank you all enough for the positivity and lessons we learnt. Without FEAR and Boxing I would not have met my new friends Shontelle and Jesse Remkes and the whanau at Results Rule...I will be forever greatfull. So the end result, Shontelle...you DID win, you over came that FEAR and you boxed your little heart out!! You did both myself and Thomas Kingi proud!! Now my question to you is...when is your next fight?
