Some folks may be aware that two years ago August, Platinum miners went on a wildcat strike at the Lonmin mine in South Africa. These are some of the lowest paid workers living in shacks mining one of the most expensive minerals on earth. Lonmin is a British company. The mine owners, ANC government, and the SACP (South African Communist Party) have all been implicated in the murder of 44 of the unarmed miners, shot by the police, over 130 were shot in all. Leading figures in COSATU, the national labor federation have also been implicated. This has had a chilling effect in SA and has led to the expulsion of NUMSA (metal workers union) from COSATU. A documentary of the event was released last year and the director sent me a copy. I showed it at the Englander pub and we raised $300 for the miners families. If any of you would like to have a gathering in your home or anywhere else and show this movie as a fundraiser (even a small one) please contact me. As important as helping the families is seeing the movie, it is a very powerful film and it has had a major influence in SA politics. It is good for children maybe 15 and up. Here is a trailer to the movie. https://youtube/watch?v=yk77YFfad1I RM
