Some great options to consider if depression is not being treated - TopicsExpress

Some great options to consider if depression is not being treated with antidepressants or is a milder form of depression or like me correlated to migraines and pain. Sometimes it is a good idea to look for ways to regulate mood when we have pain and sleep issues but not a comorbid depression disorder that is treated with antidepressants for whatever reason. Obviously if you have a therapist or a psychologist you are seeing you can run through some of these things with them. I know mood regulation is something of a issue for me when it comes to pain, migraines and sleep deprivation. And I try lots of different things to work on that. I believe there was that study that said caffeine in moderation boosts mood, but maybe that is something that might be an issue. Meditation also something to consider. Exercise even in mild amounts can help with mood regulation... I have not been able to get past a mild level yet, but at the mild level it does sometimes help with physical and or mental fatigue which sometimes does have a mood boost, but not really sure if regulates it since those real severe mood swings are pain dependent. nevertheless we are all aware how these factors of pain, fatigue and sleep can affect mood and how important it is to consider our emotional health just as much as our physical so throwing in some of these options, trying things out... all factors in whatever works for us. I have on migraine balm that is actually a stress tension balm and I love it... has to be because of the scents plus some of the muscle release in some of the components... I love it for areas with delicate skin around the temples and even right above the eyes. Does not really work on pain like a menthol based one would, which I slather in the neck and behind the ear areas and sometimes facial pain areas, depending on the one I use... but very soothing.
