Some may ask why. Why say goodbye at all? hes just an athlete. That may be all well and good somewhere else. With some other team and with some run of the mill athlete. But this is New York. These are the New York Yankees, and Yes, this is Derek Jeter. The Captain. Big deal right? thats what some of you will say. Big deal that there have only been six Yankee Captains in my lifetime. Big Deal that Jeters win/loss record in the World Series is 5 and 2. Big deal. Well, yeah, yeah it IS a big deal. If you still dont get it , well, you never really will. I can only leave you with the words of Washington Nationals player Bryce Harper, who is the future of baseball, Derek Jeter? Derek Jeter is the captain of all of baseball If youre lucky, you get to see a guy like Jeter play once or twice. Ive been lucky for 18 years. Thanks Captain. If youre reading this and you STILL dont get it, just tip your cap and know this, Derek Jeter is not just a baseball player, hes not just a Yankee, hes not just the Captain. he is baseball, he is New York and he represents all the dreams we all had, playing ball in the yard, dreaming of winning it all.
