Some of our members are involved with Run For The Wall, so this story and video will be of interest to you, and also to everyone else. Its a wonderful story of bringing home a WWII POW who has remained buried all these years in the wrong country. Please watch this video. A group of RFTW riders recently escorted the remains of a WWII POW, Pvt. Lawrence Gordon, back to his home in Canada. Even though a Canadian, he had fought for the US and his body was never identified until recently. It remained all these years in a German cemetery because he was mistaken for a German soldier. His remains were first interred in an American cemetery as “unknown,” despite the fact that his bloody wallet was sent home to his family and the man killed next to him was identified. The remains were later exhumed and reburied in a German cemetery. He was mistaken for a German soldier because he was wearing some clothing of a German soldier. Apparently American soldiers often did that because German undershirts and trousers were much cooler than their own uniforms. Gordon remained in the German cemetery all these years. Then his nephew started trying to locate his remains to rebury them in Canada. He went to the US government for help, but they didn’t think it was worth the bother. So he went to both the French and German governments, and both gladly helped. His remains were eventually found and returned to the US for identification. Then RFTW heard about it and contacted the nephew and offered to escort the remains to Canada so Pvt. Gordon would never be alone on the trip home. The US Govt finally relented and sent someone to the escort. This was an amazing story and mission, and this video shows bits of the journey taking Pvt. Gordon home. https://youtube/watch?v=u93xyKY5W7k&feature=em-upload_owner
