Some personal take away about this article... - As I look forward to turning 30 this year, I am on the right track in my way of thinking that the most important thing in my life is maintaining and enjoying friendships. - Poor people are just as susceptible to materialism as rich. (And George needs to read this. My friend, you are on the right track too, I think, and I have seen your way of thinking improve since Ive been here, but you need reinforcement.) - My constant exposure to the stupid habits of the wealthy working in finance in Beverly Hills (i.e. watching someone drop 700 bucks on a single haircut) is a double edged sword, in that I can plainly see money cant buy happiness and am grateful I am not preoccupied with wealth, yet having what I do not have constantly dangled in front of me is bad for my mental health. - Obsession with recognition is just as bad as obsession with wealth: something I have been realizing with some despair in the past two years. - Bah. I hate money. monbiot/2013/12/09/one-rolex-short-of-contentment/
