Some weeks ago my colleague Halima Kahiye and I visited Bula Isiolo in Wajir and in a 37 minutes documentary unveiled the following. 1. Its settlement dates back to 14 years ago when members of the Borana community forcfully evicted a number of Somali of households from Isiolo originally from Wajir 2 . geographically its part of Wajir East,Bawako ward, politically its people are aligned to Wajir West, Economically they are neither here nor there. 3.Bula isiolo consists of over 100 households, bigger than many tribal villages with so many chiefs, despite this it not even a sub location. 4.Its a home to some of the poorest people in Wajir county. Quarrying is the main economic activity of the locals, the women earn a living from building traditional houses.For a while now Bula Isiolo has been the source of house maids for Wajir. In as much as they want to embrace farming, they cannot afford the cost of a source of water and the generator for pumping. 5.80% of the population cannot afford to get basic needs, they eat one meal a day most of the time. Breakfast and super they say is a luxury many cannot afford. The economically empowered among them have a wel and a toilet.this just 20% of the population. 6. Non of those who moved from Bulla isiolo have a permanent building, the few in sight belong outsiders who bought plots from area. The Wells which are their main source of water are few and far much a part. some are courtesy of well wishers seeking sadaqatul jariya for their late loved ones. 7.Most of the students from Bulla isiolo that are in high school are in public day school which are over 2hours walk away.they say they cannot afford boarding schools. The list is endles. The prophet (pbuh) said Any man whom Allah has given the authority of ruling some people and he does not look after them in an honest manner, will never feel even the smell of Paradise.. please remind them. .In case they forgot.
