Some words of advice from me, an ex-smoker since 2001, who smoked for about 27 years. I wrote these to a friend and decided I wanted to share with anyone who is giving themselves 1000 reasons why they CANT quit cigarettes. Start planning now to quit with the New Year. Give yourself until Jan. 2 to begin if you plan on recovering from NYE celebrations on NYD. Then, just quit. Taper off ie cold turkey. Dont give yourself long to taper off. Just a few days if totally necessary. Draw a face on a cig and have a talk with it. Realize just exactly what a small and weak inanimate object it is. Maybe even tear it into bits as you declare you are bigger and stronger than it will ever be. Then, get out your imaginary surfboard and ride those waves! Remember, the urge to smoke is like a big wave coming from behind when you least expect it. It pushes hard, but it passes even quicker! You get used to standing strong against the shove of the waves, and the waves get farther and farther apart. Pretty soon, the sea calms and youve got smooth sailing. You can do it! Itll be one if the best things youve ever done for yourself. P.S. Add up how much $ you will save in a year -- how much more $ you will have, essentially.
