Some years back, my sister lost her husband and I was driving from Funtua to Bakori with my father and brother to be with her when we met a procession of Shiites on the way. It was during this their annual program (I dont know what its called) and as usual, they had totally blocked the road with no regard for other road users. My father was in an emotional state, wanting to reach my sister ASAP understandably, and he got out of the car to confront them. Before you could say Elzakzaky, many of them were shouting and jumping as if to hit him but he refused to back down and stood his ground asking them to make way for us to pass. That was one of the most scary moments of my life. So I have seen first hand what these processions can be like, but I still dont believe it is enough justification for the Army to kill their members unless of course, they had attacked first. From all indication, that didnt happen as many eyewitnesses have said. I have also been an advocate of self first before others, in terms of what is happening in our country and that of others, but I will never ask that others who feel otherwise should not be given the right to express their thoughts and feelings. If those people felt they would rather demonstrate against Israel than BH, why not if not? It is their right to choose to do so. After all, weve seen what happens to those that have spoken out against BH. At least Israel is far away and cannot easily bring their bombs and snipers here. My prayer is for the souls of the 30 lives lost to rest n peace, and For Allah to give their families the fortitude to bear their loss while also praying that human life is given more significance and respect in this country called Nigeria. Amin.
