Someone asked me recently if I believe in angels. At the time I was uninterested in the conversation and gave a short answer without giving it much thought. In the days to come though, I thought about this a lot and in my pursuit of a real answer to this question I came to this conclusion: I see two angels every day and their names are Mark and Sharon Laird. My parents have been there to celebrate with me in times of joy and triumph, they’ve consoled me in times of sorrow and loss, they’ve stood by me in times of failure and despair and they’ve had faith in me in times when I lost faith in myself. Their love for me and each other is unwavering and this love has truly been my saving grace on more than one occasion. If these are not the traits of Angels than I don’t know what is. Many people say they are bothered when they discover that they are just like their parents. The older I get the more I often I see my parents in me and I find myself reassured in that fact. Faith, love, patience, kindness, courage, truth, had work; these are just a few of the traits that my parents have worked diligently to instill in me and I am increasingly grateful for them every time I see any of these traits in myself. I can only hope to be just like my parents some day as they are the best people I know. Mom and Dad, thank you for all that you’ve done for me and all that you still do. I am more proud to be your son than you will ever know. I love you both, Brandon.
