Someone once asked me if he should start a weekly lesson on Tafsir Ibn Kathir. I strongly discouraged the individual considering that he was young lay person who had taken a few weekend seminars on different subjects. This statement of Ibn Abbaas reminded me of that scenario: Its limits (i.e. the Quran) are never reached. Whoever proceeds to attain it gently/slowly will be saved and whoever tries to attain it harshly/hastily will fall! Whatever you do, dont start your own Tafsir class if you are not qualified! If you do, then dont blame anyone but yourself when you fall. Alternatively get together and listen to a Tafsir lecture by a qualified speaker.
