Someone, somewhere in the world, is going to be watching my - TopicsExpress

Someone, somewhere in the world, is going to be watching my “impossible” dream coming to life tonight. It all started five years ago when, taking advantage of a visit from my grandmother, I filmed and posted online a video of us making my favorite Moroccan pancakes. I thought that having the step-by-step video would help me reproduce this recipe since I did not know how to cook — and so did hundreds of YouTube viewers. I received dozens of requests from people of all sorts, asking me to show them how to prepare other Moroccan dishes. Cooking With Alia was then born… At first, the purpose of my videos was to simplify Moroccan recipes to fit limited skills, a busy American schedule, and unavailable ingredients. But soon, I understood that the power of these videos could go beyond food – it could bring people together, from different cultures, from different countries, and open their minds and hearts as they watch the magic of deliciousness. This became my passion. I wanted to use the power of “the flavors of Morocco” to bridge cultures: bringing a Moroccan twist to international dishes and cooking Moroccan dishes with an international twist! By using familiar ingredients in a foreign dish, I aim to remove the veil of the unknown and spark interest in an unfamiliar culture. Once I wrote this sentence in a blog: “…my dream is to touch peoples’ lives and open their hearts to tolerance and cultural diversity, one recipe at a time.” And this week, I can see my dream crystallizing more and more into a ‘beyond borders’ reality. My “Bibimbap with a Moroccan Twist” was featured in prime time in Korean TV and tonight, I am representing Morocco in one of the top food shows “Master Chef” in Polish TV. This dream that, a few years ago, was considered a ‘joke’ by many people – since it was coming from a girl who did NOT know how to cook – is now reality. I am sharing my story to tell all of you to NEVER STOP DREAMING. Dream BIG, dream BOLD, dream IMPOSSIBLE… because when I did, someone, somewhere in the world, tonight, is going to be watching my “impossible” dream coming to life.
