Something is Wrong Within the APC The All Peoples Congress APC - TopicsExpress

Something is Wrong Within the APC The All Peoples Congress APC appears to be in disarray. Something is not right within the party and we cannot go on pretending everything is just fine. No! They are not and it is time the party leaders embark on addressing the hysteria within APC worldwide. Astute politicians know elections are not won when campaigns are declared open; elections are won or lost years before contestants are selected and campaigns get in full gear. If APC intends to stay in power beyond 2017, now is the time to act. It is time for our party leadership to make the genuine effort to resolve things that are wrong within the APC so we can celebrate another victory 5 years from now. If elections were held today, there would likely be a run off. The SLPP would gain more seats and do far better than their performance in 2012. Truthfully, President Koroma’s popularity has declined in recent months. Across Sierra Leone and in the Diaspora party supporters have expressed serious concerns about President Koroma’s leadership. Many have stated that the APC leader appears to be indecisive. What they expect is brazenness and the projection of self-confidence. Many think the APC leader is not thorough with decisions. They say “Of late, the APC leader comes across as someone who is unable to make up his mind on critical issues and sometimes leave supporters more confused than even before.” Repeatedly keeping the party in an indeterminate state is one reason why many APC supporters seem detached these days. A large number of APC supporters are still in a celebrative mode nearly one year after the 2012 November Elections. They sing and dance daily over the SLPP’s defeat. Visit various social media sites, and read insubstantial comments directed at the SLPP. They blow the party’s Vuvuzela and brag that APC will be in power for the next 25 to 50 years. Among this group are also those who relentlessly banter the SLPP for their leadership choice. It is a grave mistake to continuously underrate or demean the SLPP. After the 1992 coup, many gave up on the APC. They travelled the length and breadth of Sierra Leone and across the world forecasting that, “APC is dead”, and there will be no resurrection of the APC in the nation. The SLPP became complacent believing that an eternal victory is theirs. They were wrong as the headlines for the 2007 Elections brought about captions of an APC renaissance through President Koroma. Political resurrection is a miracle that can happen for any party not just the APC. APC has a difficult undertaking ahead. SLPP went to the polls in 2012 with huge odds. However, results from the southeast prove the SLPP is entrenched and a fearsome party in the nation. Every election presents new sets of challenges and President Koroma will not lead us to the polls the next time around. How we won in 2012 will not work in 2017/18. Future contests would be much tougher for the APC than past elections. We need to stop beating our chests and being full of ourselves over victories already won. It’s going to be a tricky task to convince the electorate that without President Koroma the APC is still better custodians and stewards of the nation. The APC braggadocio attitude must stop now. If not, somewhere down the road we will discover that pretentious arrogance coupled with empty boasting pave the way for the APC defeat and downfall. There is a somber disconnect between the leadership of the APC and their constituents. Nearly a year after supporters laid everything on the line and went all out to secure another victory for the party the leadership has shown no ‘appreciation’ for the sacrifices made by the APC worldwide supporters. Not a simple “Thank you” from them, instead what is on display is self-importance and audaciousness. The APC leadership has rapidly forgotten that they are “servants” of the people; they now come across as MASTERS and LORDS of the people. Leading to the elections, supporters were the toasts of the party as government functionaries deceived others in dreadful ways. Because these were deceptive promises APC now looks like a callous party that has lost touch with people’s reality. They made too many pledges that are impossible for them to keep. The actions of prominent APC government officials (especially in the Diaspora) have given the party a bad image. The party’s propaganda machine needs to refocus; it needs a facelift and well-defined mission. The reporting of the news is more of a show off than news coverage. It reads more like a tabloid for Sierra Leone’s rich and famous, than a news media representing the voice of the people. APC news these days is less appealing and often it is a turnoff. The contemporary cocky manner of APC officials is authoritarian; it spells party failure in the making. The party leadership is surrounded by bad advisers. They are more interested in advancing their own egocentric agendas than to give our leaders the accurate information they need in order to make sound decisions. The Agenda for Prosperity is arduous. As of now, not much has been done to make everyday productive toward its fulfillment. Because what is wrong within the APC has not been addressed, the President’s second term outline is at a standstill as far as benefiting the masses is concern. The party leaders must erase what is wide off the mark. They must do something now before it is too late. There must be an acceleration of effort to accomplish items on the Agenda for Prosperity. Right now the SLPP appears to be gaining momentum while the APC is losing grounds. If concrete steps are not taken immediately, SLPP will have fun tagging APC as the 2017 pipeline party. If anything we know that pipeline parties do not win elections in Sierra Leone. To win in 2017/18, the APC leadership must judiciously unclog the pipe, let prosperity flow to the masses, and right what is wrong. Can They? Or Can We?
