Sometimes I just cant help myself from being snarky and sarcastic - TopicsExpress

Sometimes I just cant help myself from being snarky and sarcastic late in the day. Below Ive copied an email I received from Tim Bishop, the US Congressional Representative from my district. Following Mr. Bishops email is my reply to it. Please bear in mind that I was actually restrained in my response. I didnt, for example, mention the fact that Congress has been unable to pass any useful legislation at all in the past several years or that Mr. Bishop maintains 3 offices. Anyone care to guess with which party Mr. Bishop associates himself? Oct. 6, 2014 Ms. Geri Geri 115 Center Street Greenport, NY 11944-1351 Dear Ms. Geri: Thank you for expressing your views regarding the issue of network neutrality. It is important for me to have the benefit of your views, and I appreciate you taking the time to contact me. I fully support a free and open Internet in which consumers can access all the legal content that exists. However, I believe net neutrality rules initiated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) represent a form of unprecedented Internet regulation that restricts such access and inhibits economic growth created by our nation’s broadband network. Furthermore, I believe that Congress, not the FCC, should be primarily responsible for initiating regulatory policies for broadband providers. Increased FCC regulation pre-empting congressional action undermines the successes and ingenuity of our existing Internet markets. It may also deter investment in the network, inhibit innovation, and diminish services benefitting Long Island families and businesses. I understand the concerns in response to FCC regulation possibly creating Internet “fast lanes,” which could allow qualifying Internet providers to pay a fee for better, faster Internet service. Such favorable treatment could push start-ups and small businesses out of the competition or ultimately force them to pass the cost on to consumers. Internet regulation requires careful oversight to preserve access and availability. You can be assured that I will continue to monitor the FCC’s rule-making process, and I will work to ensure Long Islanders continue to enjoy affordable access to broadband services. Thank you again for sharing your views. I encourage you to visit my website at timbishop.house.gov to sign up for my e-newsletter and for more information about other important issues that I am working on in Congress. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. Sincerely, Tim Bishop Member of Congress TB/ts October 6, 2014 Mr. Tim Tim Washington, Patchogue, Southampton Various zip codes USA Dear Mr. Tim: Thank you for sharing your views on the issue of net neutrality. I encourage you to visit my Facebook page for more information about other important issues I am working on as a writer. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. Of course, as I am not demented, I know perfectly well that you never read my letter, and that you wont read this one either. Might I suggest that you credit the staffers who write on your behalf by including their names and signatures? /ts tells me nothing. But I might be tempted to write in /ts instead of voting for Rep. Tim in the next election. Sincerely, Geri Henze Citizen (631)-477-6898 Ps: Be careful; I might be related to the Waltons or the Koch bros.... GH/gh
