Sometimes movie studios want to try and create films that are based on weird and outlandish source material...and then change them because they too weird and outlandish. Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martins Tank Girl was one of those films. Being only the SECOND female comic book hero lead in film history (Supergirl in 1984 being the first), this already controversial and anarchistic post-apoctalyptic comic could have been a complete feast for the senses. However, because the bigwigs at United Artists didnt get the feel of the film or the motivation of the main heroine they cut a lot of the material leaving us with a film with a ton of plot holes and often cheesy dialog. Since the original release in 1995 running against Tommy Boy starring Chris Farley it luckily has received a great cult following. Lori Petti is obviously feeling this role and does share an uncanny resemblance to Tank Girl. Will TG ever get another chance at the box office? I surely hope so. We need more strong female leads in comic book movies like her.
