Sometimes my faith in humanity wanes sorely. Last week someone dumped their dog on the highway a mile from our house. For a whole week that poor dog sat in the same spot with no food or water, running out to meet every car that drove by looking for his family to return. My heart broke everytime we drove by. When we drove home from church I told my husband I couldnt stand it any longer. Surprisingly he told me hed been feeling the same urge. Understand that we have 2 great pyrenese and 5 chihuahua type dogs. We cant afford another mouth to feed. But we just couldnt leave him to slowly die. So, we stopped and opened the door and the black and tan medium sized dog jumped right in. We got him home and fed and watered him. He wolfed down as much food as we thought we could give him safely after hed been without for days. I think he drank his weight in fresh water. Well put out money that we dont have right now to get his shots and get him fixed, and then do everything possible to find him a home with someone more responsible than his original family. Hes a sweetheart. He was so loyal that he would have stayed right where he was waiting for his family to return for him until he died. I am a fairly easy going person. I try to get along with everyone. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. But people, dont dump your problems on us! It is irresponsible, cruel, and illegal! Grow up and have a heart! If you arent responsible enough to make a commitment to your pets....DONT GET THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! What do you tell yourself that makes you think dumping a pet that trusts you and depends on you is ok?
