Sometimes treasure hunting does not go as planned. Case in point: these exceedingly cool YSL shoes I found at the Beacons Closet on West 13th Street. Wore them for 20 minutes in the store, examined them every which way and felt totally smug & satisfied when I made them mine. Then, the very first time I wore them, the soles began to crumble and totally fell apart. The words caveat emptor have a particular biting resonance today...
