Song Review: Boko Haram by Macky 2 There was a time when Dinosaurs once ruled the world but we all know what happened to them. This may be the case with Macky 2 who seems to be living on past glory like Lil Wayne who is extinct in Hip-Hop’s headlines. This project is shallow in lyrical depth despite having substance than all songs released this month so far. Macky 2 sounds like he is no longer angry for the throne or interested to compete like his former rival Slap D. Boko Haram is a lackluster effort . Bouts of lazy writing that lack dope metaphors,similes,humor, and some dated content hurt Boko Haram. The weak lyrical structures and the flow lack consistency. Macky 2 has a vocal presence and a good delivery but here he leaves much to be desired. The point to be given is for the creative concept and substance about his girl forced to get married to a rich old man as Macky 2 plays the character of a broke dude. The Macky 2 shows great consciousness rapping “mwashitisha gelo mwabikapo na danshi/ kanshi nga tamwakata amano imwe mweba fyashi/” Just like he did on Camstar’s Kontinyo ,the chorus is one of the poorest despite an overabundance Auto-tune being used. The melody cannot be merited by any choir master. Usually hooks make a song interesting but this is totally the opposite. In a world of fruitylooping, the beat sounds too ancient with cheap drum kits especially the mismatching snare. Hip-Hop is now becoming more competitive than ever but Macky 2 seems to have run out of steam. With a rumored collabo with Slap D coming, Macky 2 may be going into the ring to face a bare knuckled opponent . Chef 187, Xsiq, Muzo, Stevo ,Redwingz,Nick Pro,are brining hard bars in vernacular, for Macky 2 he has a lot of patching to do in his lyrics if he has reclaim the spot he had 4 years ago. Definitely this is a skipable record when you assemble Xsiq’s Damage Control,J.O.B’s Help Me Lord,Pilato’s One Day,Chef’s Sitiliti Music,Muzo’s Kuipaya Nokonaula and other songs satisfying substantially or literately.
