Song of the Day 1/30/14: Against All Odds by Phil Collins, who turns 63 today, was a song Collins was approached to write the title song to the film Against All Odds while it was still in its rough cut form. Originally titled How Can You Just Sit There?, the song was initially from the sessions for Collins debut solo album Face Value (1981). It was one of about a dozen written for his first wife who had left him. The single reached #2 in the United Kingdom, peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, the first for Collins. It is the first of six songs by Collins written specifically for a film soundtrack that would appear on the Hot 100. Collins sold more than 100 million albums as a solo artist, announced in March 2011 that he was calling it a day to concentrate on being a full-time father to two young sons. Three days before the Grammy Awards, he announced he will be collaborating and writing with Adele on her newest album which doesnt have a release date yet but it is believed to be released by the mid point of this year.
