South Korea Unadjusted Current Account Surplus $11.41 Billion South Korea posted an unadjusted current account surplus of $11.41 billion in November, the Bank of Korea said on Tuesday. That follows the downwardly revised $8.84 billion surplus in October (originally $9.01 billion). The goods account surplus widened to $10.15 billion from $8.49 billion in the previous month. The services account deficit was $0.20 billion, similar to October’s level, the bank noted. The primary income account surplus widened to $1.67 billion from $0.97 billion in the previous month due to an improvement in the income on equity account. The secondary income account saw a deficit of $0.21 billion. The financial account had a net outflow of $9.92 billion, up from $6.80 billion in October. Direct investment had a net outflow of $2.10 billion, similar to the level in the previous month. Portfolio investment had a net outflow of $2.84 billion, up from $0.38 billion in the previous month, due to an increase in residents’ portfolio investment abroad, the bank said. Financial derivatives saw a net outflow of $0.08 billion. Other investment had a net outflow of $7.80 billion, up sharply from $4.01 billion in the previous month owing to the increase of overseas deposits by domestic financial institutions and the shift to a net repayment of their borrowings. Reserve assets fell $2.90 billion. Seasonally adjusted, the current account surplus was $9.73 billion, up from the downwardly revised $7.17 billion (originally $7.32 billion) in the previous month.
