South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (#SWIOFC) in collaboration with #SmartFish Delegates from #Comoros, #Kenya, #Somali, #Tanzania, #Mauritius, #Madagascar, Seychelles, #Mozambique, #Reunion, South #Africa and #Maldives attends the regional conference on Fisheries Development and its contribution to the Millenium Development Goals, which is graciously being hosted by the Seychelles Fishing Authority, on Mahe, #Seychelles, from 10 to 12 February 2014. The objective of the Conference is to have a stock-take of #fisheries development over the previous decade, what were the challenges and difficulties encountered, how they were addressed, the extent to which they were resolved or not, and what were the lessons learnt, with member countries focusing individually on areas for which they had particular interest, experience and lessons to share. The intent is to allow for an open regional discussion that would inform policy adjustments that may be needed in the future. The Conference will also provide an opportunity to link fisheries to overall national development and examine how fisheries development in the previous decade has contributed to the countries millennium development goals.
