Southern Railway 2-8-0 (Consolidation) J-542 was built by Baldwin in 1903 for local freight trains in western North Carolina. It is preserved at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer, in the very same roundhouse where it was maintained while in service. J-542 also appeared in the George Clooney movie Leatherheads, though it had to be pushed to Salisbury station by a diesel as it is currently inoperable.
