Speaking of the Mother Earth News, have any of you purchased their online Gardening Planner? After I did the trial and I was sold! I LOVE IT. It’s a wonderful application used to plan out your garden. It is customized to your region and tells you when to sow your seeds, plant them and harvest. All the plant groups are highlighted in different colors so you can arrange your plants in the same plant family (which have similar growing requirements) and it even turns colors if you try to plant something in a location that had a conflicting crop before it (like no garlic after onion, etc) and for crop rotation. It keeps track of your zone and what you have planted and when, so it can send you reminders of what needs to be done. It has a billion awesome features, I love it. It is $20 or $25 but it is well worth it IMO. And you can load it on your tablet and drag it around the garden with you. Ok, tablets aren’t very self-sufficient but hey, SHTF hasn’t happened yet so I’m taking all the help I can get My favorite thing about this was as I was mapping out the bird’s eye view of my main garden area, I saw how many spaces were being underutilized. You get used to how your stuff is laid out and just don’t see all of the potential. And while I’m always thinking of how to grow more in less space or grow vertically, the bird’s eye view really helped me see how I could use all the space more efficiently. I have 2 new raised beds along a fence line because of it, and have other plans for next year. Anyway, I find it very helpful and would recommend that everyone at least try it during the free trial. ~Sabrina gardenplanner.motherearthnews/
